Holy man stays standing for 2 years

A holy man in northern India has become famous for remaining standing for the past two years.

Ram Dayal Sanichar Muni says he remains upright to do everything, including eating, going to the toilet and even sleeping.

The 45-year-old, who lives at the Chamunda Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh, naps while leaning on a specially made swing.

He says he has never felt the need to take a break.

The sage reportedly continued with his feat after taking a vow to remain standing for 41 days.

Hindustan Times reports he said: “I don’t know what happened to me. I felt God was extending my energy and my resolve to remain standing after the 41 days were over.

“I don’t even know how long I will continue to stand like this. I have completed two years and I believe it would not have been possible without God’s will.”

The holy man has already built one temple and has vowed not to sit down until he collects sufficient funds to construct temples to Hindu gods Hanuman and Ganesha.

Temple priest Om Prakash said: “Initially there were a lot of problems - Baba developed swelling in his feet and it was a painful situation. But now I think he has got used to it.

“Visitors to the temple revere him and many seek his blessings. Baba’s popularity has grown immensely in all the neighbouring areas as well.”

Inmate Escapes Without Pants

A 25-year-old man who ran nearly naked from prison yesterday now faces five Christmases behind bars instead of just one.Michael Ventura left his boxer shorts and brown prison pants hanging from a sharp razor-wire fence, and his rubber slippers below, after escaping from the Oahu Community Correctional Center shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday.

Ventura, who might be injured after cutting himself on the 10-foot fence, had a little more than a month left of a 90-day sentence for third-degree assault.

Now he faces charges of third-degree escape, a felony that carries a five-year sentence.
Ventura, who had been detained for about a week, had only a white T-shirt on when he made a run for it.

“Somebody called and said he was running with a bag on his head,” said Michael Gaede, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Officials were also told that Ventura wrapped a piece of cardboard around his waist.
Public safety officials found other pieces of cardboard and plastic bags with blood spots near the corrections center.

Albanian PM's stolen car found after 6 years

Tirana - Albanian police have recovered a luxury limousine owned by Prime Minister Fatos Nano that was stolen at gun-point six years ago.

Local media said police arrested the car’s current owner and the thieves who forced an assistant taking care of the car to hand over the keys.

The carjackers had forged the documents of the Mercedes E250 Elegance and changed its chassis number before selling it for a fraction of its price, pretending it had come from Italy.

Albanians were not allowed to own private cars until 1990 when communism collapsed.

They quickly went automobile crazy, importing all kinds of used cars and creating unprecedented pollution and traffic jams in the capital Tirana. Car thefts and carjackings boomed and many cars stolen across Europe ended up in Albania.
