A Chilean man has won a competition after he kissed a car for 54 hours non-stop.

The 22-year-old won the car he kissed, Prensa online reports.

Jose Aliaga was handed the keys to the brand new vehicle after his last competitor fainted.

Mr Aliaga kissed the car for exactly 54 hours and 22 minutes.

He said: “My desire for the car was stronger. The only thing I wanted was to win this car.”

He was only allowed 7 minutes off every three hours.

The competition was promoted by radio station Rock and Pop from Santiago and had originally 27 competitors.

Meteor crashes into house

Tehran - A meteorite weighing at least 16kg has hit a house in the southeast of Iran, the state news agency IRNA reported on Thursday.

According to local police official Mohammad Arab, the sparkling crystalline rock hit a home in Saravan in Sistan-Baluchestan province. No injuries or serious damage were reported.

The report said most of the meteor had already been broken up and taken away by local people before police arrived at the scene.

105-Year-Old Granny Has First Doctor Visit

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) - A 105-year-old Bosnian granny, has been treated by a doctor for the first time in her life, a Bosnian news agency reported Wednesday.

Milja Markovic slipped and fell in her house in a remote mountain village near Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia earlier this week and broke her leg, her son Momir told Srna news agency. He said his mother had never been ill in her life.

Markovic was not even registered in the files of the local hospital in Srebrenica, located some 43 miles northeast of Sarajevo.

Markovic is considered to be one of the oldest people in Bosnia, the agency said.

Indian 'is world's oldest mother'

A 65-year-old retired schoolteacher in India has given birth to a baby boy, and become the world’s oldest mother, according to press reports.

If the claim is fully verified, then Satyabhama Mahapatra, from Nayagarh in Orissa, would beat the previous record holder by two years.

The boy, reportedly healthy and weighing 3kilogrammes (6lb 8oz), was born by Caesarean section at a private home, according to the Times of India.

The baby was not conceived naturally, but is the combination of an egg from the woman’s 26-year-old niece, Veenarani Mahapatra, and the sperm of Veenarani’s husband.

Satyabhama and her husband have been married 50 years, but this is their first child.
The pregnancy was not uncomplicated, say the reports - Satyabhama was hospitalised for the final trimester of the pregnancy.

The procedure cost about 30,000 rupees ($630).

Dog Drives Truck Into Auto Parts Store

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Michael Henson left the auto parts store with more problems than when he arrived. For that, he can thank his dog.

Henson, whose truck had a sticking throttle, brought his dog along for company when he drove to O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Springdale on Sunday.

“He’d left the truck running — I guess to show the people at O’Reilly’s — and the dog jumped over and knocked the truck into gear,” Springdale police Sgt. Billy Turnbough said.

The truck raced into the building, stunning Henson and clerk Josh Hopper.
“The guy said he was standing there, looked up, and saw his dog driving his truck through the building,” Turnbough said.

Hopper said he heard the crash and looked up from the transaction.

“His truck was in the window,” Hopper said. “I thought, ‘Oh no.’ Everybody was fine. His front left tire just made it onto the brick wall.”

No one was hurt and no humans or animals were cited, police said.

A Florida phone sex operator has won a workers’ compensation settlement claiming she was injured after regularly masturbating at work, her lawyer said.

Doctor at Mexican public hospital accused of amputating wrong foot

TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico (AP) - A doctor at a public hospital in southern Mexico mistakenly amputated the right leg of an elderly patient who had sought treatment for an infection in his left foot, the patient’s family announced Sunday.

Seeking treatment for a foot wound aggravated by diabetes, Alberto Lopez, 74, was admitted to a Social Security Institute hospital in Tuxtla Gutierrez, about 700 kilometres south of Mexico City, and underwent surgery Friday. But the patient emerged from surgery without a right leg - and still suffering from the original infection - according to family members who filed a complaint Sunday with the state attorney general’s office and a national medical arbitration commission.

As of Sunday, Lopez had not yet been notified that the wrong limb was amputated unnecessarily, according to his daughter, Esperanza Lopez.

“He could die on us just from the impact,” she said. “What we are demanding of the authorities is that the person responsible be punished.”

Hospital director Jesus Siman acknowledged that a mistake was made and said the responsible doctor had been removed from the hospital while authorities investigate the incident. The doctor under investigation could not be reached for comment.

Man gives $35,000 to shelter residents

DENVER (AP) - Residents of Samaritan House didn’t know what to expect when the bearded, middle-aged man parked his sport utility vehicle in front of the downtown homeless shelter on Christmas Eve.

The man walked into the building, pulled out a thick roll of $100 US bills and began passing them out to each of the approximately 300 residents.

When he was finished, he had given out $35,000.

“It was like seeing Santa Claus and God all at once,” said William Chengelis, who has lived at the shelter since November. “You hear about stuff like that but you don’t think you’ll be there when it happens.”

As a crowd gathered, the man said he had once been homeless and knew what it was like to be in need. He did not identify himself and said only that he lived in Denver and had also distributed money at a Las Vegas shelter.

Possibly the man’s biggest single donation was $5,000 to a family of six to find housing. Louis Quezada, Tessa Wittner and their four children had been living with Quezada’s parents but were thrown out after an argument. They had been in the shelter several days.
“He asked if he gave us the money, would we get a house with it,” said Quezeda, 23. “We said yes.”

A boy racer lost his licence after speeding past a speed camera 19 times in a single night.

The teenager swapped his car’s number plate with a fake one and deliberately raced past the camera.

The unnamed 19-year-old and his three friends were snapped in various poses - usually hanging out of the car windows making obscene gestures and believing police would not be able to trace them.

They were recorded at speeds almost three times the legal 30mph limit.

But police in Bern, Switzerland circulated the images to their patrol units and the teenage racer was stopped as he set off home in the yellow Citroen with the fake plates still attached.

Andhra tribal eats two-year-old girl

Police have arrested a man they say kidnapped a two-year-old girl before roasting her on a fire and eating her because he was starving.

The gruesome incident took place in a jungle hamlet in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh about a week ago, a police officer said on Friday, and came to light after the 42-year-old man was later discovered gorging on a buffalo carcass.

“He was caught and handed over to us by villagers who found it strange that he was eating such a large animal with his bare hands with flourish,” the officer told the agency. The man was arrested on Wednesday.Parents of the missing girl, who lived in a neighbouring village, feared the worst when they heard of the incident and went to the area where the man was caught.

Mystery illness stalks world's rarest penguin

A mystery disease is killing off yellow-eyed penguin chicks in New Zealand in a fresh blow to efforts to conserve the world’s rarest member of the penguin family, a conservation group said on Thursday.

BirdLife International said the disease, which has baffled local scientists, had killed up to 80 percent of this spring’s chick’s in the worst affected areas on New Zealand’s South Island.

“Most penguin chicks have been found dead at nests on Otago Peninsula and North Otago, with other outbreaks on Stewart Island and the Catlins coast,” BirdLife said.

“With a global population of just under 5 000 birds, the yellow-eyed penguin is classified by BirdLife as endangered and is considered to be the world’s rarest penguin species,” it said.

Baby dies after mother cuts off arms

Dallas - A mother charged with killing her 10-month-old daughter by cutting off her arms tried to commit suicide the day after giving birth at home, according to a newspaper report citing medical records.

The Dallas Morning News reported in Thursday’s edition that medical records it obtained showed Dena Schlosser, 35, cut her wrist on January 10 and was treated at an emergency room.

Schlosser was charged with capital murder November 22 after she told a 911 operator that she had severed her baby Margaret’s arms. Police and paramedics found Schlosser in her living room, covered in blood and still holding a knife.

Ram Dayal Sanichar Muni says he remains upright to do everything, including eating, going to the toilet and even sleeping.

A 25-year-old man who ran nearly naked from prison yesterday now faces five Christmases behind bars instead of just one.Michael Ventura left his boxer shorts and brown prison pants hanging from a sharp razor-wire fence, and his rubber slippers below, after escaping from the Oahu Community Correctional Center shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday.

HONOLULU - A shortage of Christmas trees in Hawaii has raised prices to more than $200 each, drawing complaints from cost-conscious shoppers who are eager to buy trees before the holiday.

Tree buyers camped outside a shopping center hours before dawn on Saturday to await a shipment of 130 noble firs flown in from Oregon. A crowd of more than 200 people had gathered by morning, when a salesman announced the trees would cost $165 to $200 each.

Consumers complained that was at least twice the price charged just a few days earlier. In previous weeks, trees sold for $30 to $70.

Most Christmas trees sold in Hawaii have been delivered by cargo ships from farms in the Pacific Northwest. Last season, sellers suffered losses when hundreds went unsold, forcing them to give many trees away.

But this year, smaller orders caused a major shortage across the islands. Many major retailers sold out.

“Last year, a lot of places over-ordered,” said Dasha Nixon, a manager at the Wal-Mart on Maui, which brought in 200 fewer trees this year. “This year, it looks like they under-ordered.”

Joke Text Message Triggers Terror Alert

CANBERRA, Australia - An Italian tourist aboard a flight from Sydney to Vienna caused an international security alert after he sent a joke text message from his cell phone to his wife claiming his plane had been hijacked by terrorists, the Australian government confirmed Sunday.

The man, Antonio Casale, 35, sent the message to his wife from Kuala Lumpur during a refueling stop on a Lauda Air flight from Sydney last Sunday night, Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported.

Transport Minister John Anderson’s spokesman confirmed the newspaper report.
Casale claimed terrorists were in control of the plane and were taking the passengers to an unknown destination.

His distressed wife contacted Italian police, who immediately contacted the Italian embassy in Canberra, who in turn contacted Australian Federal Police. Anderson’s spokesman said authorities were able to quickly establish Casale’s identity and discover the message was a hoax.

Marie Ellis, a woman lived for 105 years despite smoking nearly 500,000 cigarettes during her lifetime.

Ellis died of old age heart failure recently, and was cremated clutching a packet of her favourite Benson and Hedges Gold and flowers shaped like cigarettes on top of her coffin.

Ellis, who remained single throughout her life, smoked almost 15 cigarettes a day or 5,500 a year from the age of 15.

Trucker Used Knife to Cut Off His Organ

A 55-year-old truck driver from Chicago cut off his penis at the Flying J Truck Stop in Clearbrook — though investigators are not sure how long it happened before rescue crews arrived, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Wednesday.

Deputies said they arrived Tuesday morning and found the man with blood on his hands, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Heflin said.

Maj. Robert C. Eckman said the man, whose name and trucking company is not being released, had been staying in his truck at the Flying J since Friday.

“Right now, we believe this incident happened sometime between Friday and Tuesday,” Eckman said.

The trucker used a knife to cut off his penis, then wrapped it in a plastic bag, and put it in a Dumpster near his truck, Eckman said.

Man charged after crash, kissing couple

BURLINGTON, Vt. - A Milton man who crashed a car at high speed and then wandered into a house and kissed a sleeping couple is facing a variety of charges.

Thomas Popke, 26, is hospitalized at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He’s facing charges including unlawful trespass, operating without owner’s consent and careless and negligent operation. He had not been drinking, police said. Popke is due in court Jan. 24.

The incident began with a car crash at about 3 a.m. Thursday. Popke was driving on North Road in Hinesburg at more than 100 mph, said Vermont State Police Trooper Brian Penders.

Popke lost control and crashed. The vehicle flipped at least twice. Popke banged his head, received a large gash, lost a tooth and cut his hand, Penders said.

Then Popke walked a mile to the home of Sandra and Reginald Robinson. The couple awoke when Popke greeted them as they slept, Sandra Robinson, 66, said.

“He kissed me on the cheek and said, ‘Hi, Mom,’” she said later Thursday. “Then he went around to the other side of the bed and kissed my husband and said, ‘Hi, Dad.”

Taxi Driver Shoots Man in Bin Laden Mask

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - Osama bin Laden take note: You wouldn’t be safe in Costa Rica. A startled taxi driver shot and wounded a jokester wearing a plastic mask of the al-Qaida leader, police said Tuesday.

Leonel Arias, 47, told police he was playing a practical joke by donning the Bin Laden mask, toting his pellet rifle and jumping out to scare drivers on a narrow street in his hometown, Carrizal de Alajuela, about 20 miles north of San Jose.

Arias had startled several drivers that way on Monday afternoon. But when he jumped out in front of taxi driver Juan Pablo Sandoval, the motorist reached for a gun and shot him twice in the stomach. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

“For me and I think for anybody else at a time like that one thinks the worst and so I fired my gun,” Sandoval told Channel 7 television.

Police declined to detain Sandoval, saying he had believed he was acting in self-defense.

A QUICK splash in the backyard turned into an emergency when a central Queensland woman discovered her toddler playing with an old World War II bomb.

Michelle Bates of Gargett, in the Pioneer Valley west of Mackay, had taken her son Liam to a waterhole on her property on Tuesday when she noticed him playing with a “suspicious” object.

“There was a bit of water in the gully and I had taken the kids down to have a bit of a splash,” she said today.

“I saw him pick up something and I wasn’t sure what it was. Turns out it was a bomb.”

Police and an army bomb disposal team from Townsville removed the object, which experts later identified as a 3.5-inch anti-tank rocket. The bomb was commonly used by Australian and US troops during WWII and the Korean War.

MEXICO CITY - A Mexican man killed his lover in a drunken, drugged fight then cooked the man’s body in tomato and onion sauce and ate it over three days.
Police found Gumaro de Dios Arias grilling rotting human flesh for his breakfast, including part of a heart, when they raided a shack he lived in near the Caribbean beach resort of Playa del Carmen, a police chief said on Wednesday.

“He was preparing stews. There was a grill where he was cooking part of the heart and bits he had cut off the body. It was terrible, terrible,” said local police chief Martin Estrada, who was among a dozen police who raided the shack.

Arias told police the victim, a young man, arrived at his cardboard hut in a wasteland area with a mutual friend who then left the two of them drinking and taking drugs.

The pair had sex and afterward a fight broke out during which he killed the man with blows to the head, police said. Police arrested Arias, 25, on Tuesday after a tip off. “They said there was a person eating a person,” Estrada said.

“We found him lying on a folding bed and to one side was the corpse which had been torn apart and which it seems he had been eating for three days,” he told Reuters. The corpse, which had its back ripped open and its innards pulled out, was missing various parts, like a thigh, he said.

Airline worker confuses bosses

Cops investigate faeces from sky mystery

Maiguio, France - Police in a small village in southeast France are probing a mystery that is as puzzling as it is insalubrious: a rain of faeces that has dirtied houses and cars for years.

The main lead being followed up is the hypotheses that the excrement is being dumped by some of the many aircraft that use a flight path above the village of Mauguio on their way to the nearby Montpellier airport.

But according to one officer attached to the investigation, the discharge could not come from modern passenger planes, which have waste tanks to collect human waste.

“This excrement could come from other types of aircraft. In that case, it would be a thoughtless act similar to the bilge-flushing that ships sometimes do at sea,” he said.

A local car-dealer raised the stink over the matter after becoming frustrated at having to constantly clean brown spots off the vehicles in his lot.

He had samples analysed by a laboratory which confirmed the residue came from mammals - though it could not specify it came from humans - and he lodged a formal police complaint last Friday.

Florida Man Arrested For Biting Dog

A Gainesville man is charged with animal cruelty after authorities say he bit his Jack Russell terrier as punishment. Mount Lee Lacy, 21, told officers he bit his dog, Lady, because she had defecated in the house and that he routinely bit her as punishment.

Police said the dog was cowering in the back of her crate when they found her. The dog had a bloody left front paw from the bite. Jack Russell terriers normally weight 10 to 16 pounds.

Authorities were called to Lacy’s apartment on Saturday after receiving a concerned phone call from his girlfriend’s mother.
Lacy is charged with felony animal cruelty and resisting arrest without violence. He is in jail with bond set at $25,000.

Police Chief Sorry For Arresting 10-Year-Old With Scissors

Philadelphia’s police chief is apologizing to the mother of a 10-year-old girl arrested and handcuffed after bringing a pair of scissors to school in her backpack.

Chief Sylvester Johnson says officers were following protocol when they drove the girl to a police station with her hands cuffed in front of her. But Johnson says more discretion will be used in future cases involving young children.

The district says Porsche Brown violated a ban on bringing scissors - which are considered potential weapons - to school.

The fourth-grader did not threaten anyone with the eight-inch shears.

She was released after officers decided Thursday that she hadn’t committed a crime.

Surgeons remove 66-pound tumor from woman

CINCINNATI - A woman who weighed more than 300 pounds noticed something strange happening to her body.
As she lost more than 60 pounds over several weeks without going on a diet, she said she could feel a large mass growing inside her.

“It didn’t feel normal,” Grace Radtke said. “It was like a long pregnancy.”
After being encouraged by family members, she finally went for medical help that led to the removal of a 66-pound non-cancerous, ovarian tumor from her abdomen on Dec. 3 at University Hospital.

“I can’t believe that thing was in me,” said Radtke, a grocery store deli counter worker in her early 40s who lives in Peebles in southern Ohio.

Doctors in Hillsboro found a large mass, but could not determine whether it was cancerous and referred her to University Hospital. Doctors there found a mucinous ovarian tumor, one of several kinds of ovarian cysts.

Blind man can 'see emotion'

A COMPLETELY blind British man had been shown to possess an apparent “sixth sense” which let him recognise emotions on people’s faces, British scientists said in research released today.

The 52-year-old was able to react to pictures of human faces showing emotions such as anger, happiness or fear, the researchers said.

The man, identified only as “patient X”, has suffered two strokes which damaged the brain areas that process visual signals, leaving him completely blind.

However his eyes and optic nerves are intact, and brain scans showed that he appeared to somehow use a part of the brain not usually used for sight to process visual signals linked to some emotions.

When researchers from the University of Wales showed the man images of shapes such as circles and squares, he could only guess what they were, and had a similar lack of success determining the gender of emotionless male and female faces.

Scissors get girl in legal trouble

A 10-year-old fourth-grade girl at Holme Elementary School in the Far Northeast was pulled out of class, handcuffed, and taken to the local police station in the back of a police wagon earlier this week after a pair of 8-inch scissors were found in her book bag, according to authorities and her angry mother. 

School district and police officials said yesterday that they were following state law and procedures in dealing with students who have weapons on school property. They say that those rules demand police be called and that procedures call for handcuffing suspects regardless of age or crime.

Man Acquitted of Rape - Says He Was Asleep

OSLO (Reuters) - A Norwegian court has acquitted a man accused of raping a sleeping woman after he said he was also asleep at the time.

The 18-year old woman, who had gone to sleep dressed in trousers and a sweater on a sofa after a party with friends, awoke to find the 34-year-old man having sex with her. The man said he was woken by her screams for help.

“He said that he was asleep and the majority of the judges found that they could not rule out the possibility,” defense lawyer Christian Riig told NRK public radio on Thursday.

The three-judge panel in the court in Inderoy, west Norway, acquitted him by a 2-1 margin because of doubts about whether he had been conscious.

Riig declined to speculate about how the man, who had been drinking, could have had sex in his sleep, apparently after undressing the woman. But he said an ex-partner of the man had testified by telephone that similar things had happened to her.

Shark kills fisherman on Great Barrier Reef

Sydney - A fisherman who screamed for help as a shark mauled him at a popular tourist spot on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef on Saturday died before onlookers could pull him to safety, police said.

The 38-year-old Australian man was spearfishing about 60km off Port Douglas on the northeast coast in an area known to tourist charter boat operators as Opal Reef when the unknown species of shark attacked, a police spokesperson said.

“His two mates in a nearby boat heard screaming coming from the water, then saw him surrounded by a pool of blood,” the spokesperson said.

“He died before a rescue helicopter could get to him.”

Doctors Find Coins In Patient's Belly

BOSTON (AP) - French doctors were taken aback when they discovered the reason for a patient’s sore, swollen belly: He had swallowed around 350 coins - worth about $860 Cdn - along with assorted necklaces and needles.

The 62-year-old man came to the emergency room of Cholet General Hospital in western France in 2002. He had a history of major psychiatric illness, was suffering from stomach pain and could not eat or move his bowels. His family warned doctors that he sometimes swallowed coins, and a few had been removed from his stomach in past hospital visits.

Still, doctors were awed when they took an X-ray. They discovered an enormous opaque mass in his stomach that turned out to weigh 5.4 kilograms, as much as some bowling balls. It was so heavy it had forced his stomach down between his hips.

Five days after his arrival, doctors cut him open and removed his badly damaged stomach with its contents. He died 12 days later from complications.

Police Dog Bites Nude Man Where It Really Hurts

MINNEAPOLIS - A man was bitten in the genitals by a police dog while being arrested for allegedly running nude and entering homes in a Minneapolis neighborhood.

Police said the dog bit the man in order to protect its handler. Police say the man started hitting the officer and the police dog did what it was trained to do - protect its human partner.

A police spokesman said police dogs are trained to bite if their partner is attacked. He said the dogs are not trained to bite in the groin area, but that it’s likely the dog jumped and bit the man while he was moving around.

The dog, which was still leashed, bit the suspect to protect the officer. The 19-year-old-man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police reports said a police canine unit found the nude suspect shortly after noon Tuesday in a house. Police said the suspect began hitting an officer who ordered him out of the house.

Police say the man continued to attack officers even after he was bit. Police used a stun gun to subdue him.

A test version functions as a horoscope reading.

Punch your birthday into the computer, and different data for the scents are relayed over the Net to an attached device that resembles a crystal ball with a strawlike nozzle.

The “good luck” mixture changes, depending on your sign. Cancerians get a waft of chamomile, lavender and vetiver oils, which according to a Japanese horoscope expert is a perk-up odor. Pisces get lavender, clary sage and lemongrass.

The machines and software were developed by Mirapro Co., a machinery parts and computer chip company. Prices are still undecided, and overseas sales are not yet planned, company officials said.

Man bitten by two snakes in one day

A Norwegian man with an illegal collection of exotic animals was rushed to the hospital twice in one day after being bitten by two different poisonous snakes, police said.

The man in his 30s was bitten by a rattlesnake Monday night, said police in Asker, near Oslo.

“The man was not in good condition, so he was taken to the hospital,” police spokesman Tore Hagen told Oslo newspaper Verdens Gang in its Tuesday edition.Afterward, police learned the man had been taken to the hospital earlier the same day after being bitten by a Malaysian palm viper, but checked himself out.

Though he survived both bites, his illegal collection of exotic pets, including four snakes, was confiscated and he faces charges of illegally importing wildlife into Norway, police said.

Police say the skull was brought to the RCMP detachment late Tuesday night by a woman who found the handbag.

Man Asks for Death Before Murder Trial

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In what experts say is a rare occurrence, a man accused of murdering two children and attacking their mother has asked a judge to let him plead guilty and to sentence him to death. 

“I only wish the judge to sentence me to death so no one can feel responsible for another’s death, including mine,” Marco Allen Chapman wrote in a letter to Circuit Judge Tony Frohlich read in court in October.

Chapman, 32, is due back in court Tuesday, when a doctor is expected to testify about his mental state and whether he understands what a guilty plea and death sentence would mean.

“His request is very well thought out,” Linda Tally Smith, who is prosecuting Chapman, said last week. “The big question is, will he change his mind and what do we do if he does?”

The man known as “Mr. Plastic Fantastic” has great credit. So great, in fact, that it takes a wallet nearly as long as a football field to carry his credit cards.
Walter Cavanagh owns 1,497 valid credit cards (he assumes a card is valid until he hears otherwise) with a potential credit line of about $1.7 million.

The retired real estate broker, who lives in the small San Luis Obispo County community of Shell Beach, said his collecting began with a bet more than three decades ago.

He and a friend were sitting in his apartment in 1969 and bet who could collect the most credit cards. The loser would buy dinner.

Cavanagh managed to obtain 143 cards in a year and got a rib-eye steak dinner. He also caught the plastic bug.

America's oldest person dies

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - America’s oldest person, a 114-year-old woman who voted in every election since women earned the right in 1920 and had the thinnest file in her doctor’s office, has died.

Verona Johnston died Wednesday at home in Worthington, Ohio, said her daughter, Julie Johnson. “She just wore out,” Johnson said. “She was still very sharp up until a few months ago.” Johnston moved from her native Iowa to Ohio at age 98 to live with Johnson and her husband, both in their 80s. She still considered Iowa home.

An Indian man has driven 375 miles without using his hands in a bid to get into the record books.

It took 15 hours for R S Santhosh Kumar to drive from Parassala, near Thiruvanthapuram, to Kasargod with his hands tied to the driver’s seat.

The jewellery shop owner controlled the steering wheel, brake and clutch with his legs alone, reports Vijay Times.

Kumar, from Neyyanttinkara in Kerala, said he had been training for the event for the past five years.

The accident occurred at Oslo’s Reptile Park, where Helle Hogner was helping her son Are.

“When I opened the hatch to show some visitors how to feed the fish one of the piranhas suddenly decided that I was a flying fish. At least it jumped into the air and snapped at one of my fingers and the blood just spurted. The piranha must have thought it was feeding time,” Hogner told newspaper Telemarksavisa.

Hogner said that the wound was so clean that it didn’t hurt at once. At the emergency ward they patched her finger up.

“It caused a certain amount of commotion when a middle-aged woman turned up at the emergency ward after being bitten in the finger by a piranha in Oslo. In the end all physicians and personnel were gathered around the finger, this was a rare experience for them,” Hogner said.

The staff at the emergency room photographed the wounded finger and filed it under rare cases.

Canberra - An Australian phone company is offering customers the chance to blacklist numbers before heading out for a night on the town so they can reduce the risk of making any embarrassing, incoherent late-night calls.

A survey of 409 people by Virgin Mobile, a joint venture of The Virgin Group and Optus, found 95 of people percent made drunk calls.

Of those calls, 30 percent were to ex-partners, 19 percent to current partners, and 36 percent to other people, including their bosses.

The company also found that 55 percent of those polled would grab for their phone first the next morning to check who they had drunkenly dialed, compared with just eight percent who went for the headache pills first.
