Teacher Loses her Job for Licking a Female Student's Ears
A Morse High School teacher has been charged with having unlawful sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student during a tutoring session at the teacher’s home, police said.
The teacher is free on $500 bail pending a June 14 court date, after her arrest Monday morning at her home. She is a longtime teacher at Bath’s high school.
Brunswick Detective Sgt. Mark Waltz said the teacher-student relationship makes the consensual relationship a criminal act.

Wednesday’s Nation newspaper said Anan Temtan, who lives in the tsunami-hit southern resort island of Phuket, had used cotton to relieve the itching, but had scratched so hard his eardrums ruptured and started bleeding.
“We believe flies might have gone inside his ears to lay eggs, which hatched into larvae and caused the itching,” said Somsak Nonthasri, the doctor who treated him.
Somsak, who used tweezers and a small suction device to remove the maggots, said Anan would be kept in for observation for a while to make sure no more eggs hatched.

Anchorage, Alaska - Scott MacInnes set an Alaskan record this week, although not one contenders would seek to break, by becoming the state’s first person to survive two bear attacks, state officials said on Wednesday.
MacInnes, a 51-year-old biologist, was mauled during his early morning jog on Monday when he met up with a brown bear and one or two cubs near his home in the Kenai Peninsula town of Soldotna.

Blake R. Steidler, 24, allegedly made an explosive device that included a model-rocket engine igniter inside a jewelry box, the federal indictment said.
Steidler drove to North Bloomfield, Ohio, on Feb. 10 and mailed the box, but then drive home to Lancaster County, called 911, and turned himself in, according to the indictment.
East Cocalico Township Police, who received the 911 call, apprehended Steidler and turned him over to federal authorities, who were holding him in Philadelphia, officials said.

HONOLULU - Officials at Hawaii’s Sea Life Park said the world’s only known captive whale-dolphin hybrid has given birth to a playful female calf. The hybrid mother, Kekaimalu, gave birth about 100 days ago.
Officials said the calf was born Dec. 23 to a hybrid of a false killer whale and an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. The calf, yet to be named, is one-fourth false killer whale and three-fourths dolphin.
Park officials said they kept the birth a secret until now because of recent changes in ownership and operations at the park.
The only two wholphins in the world are kept in seclusion at Sea Life Park’s mammal nursery to allow the baby to thrive.
“We were very excited to know that she was pregnant and very excited to have her successfully take over the calf when she was born,” Seal Life Park General Manager Renato Lenzi said.

A Brooklyn man unhappy with the sentence he received for masturbating in public, repeated the crime before the assistant municipal court clerk on closed circuit TV last week, police said.
Reggie Frank, 34, had just been sentenced over closed circuit television on April 4 to six months in the Middlesex County Detention Center for masturbating in the women’s lingerie section of the Lord & Taylor at Woodbridge Center Mall, when he decided to begin doing what landed him in jail in the first place, police said.
“The way the system works with closed circuit TV is they can see and talk to him up here at Woodbridge,” Capt. Charles Rowinski said. “If they plead guilty, the judge can sentence him over T;, if they plead not guilty, they have to come before the judge in person.”
The court clerk alleged Frank had been acting agitated and was using profanity during the process, according to the police report.
“The judge sentenced him to six months and apparently the defendant thought it should be less,” Rowinski said.

A 17-year-old Morrisville youth was being held on $100,000 bail after police said he raided a tomb in a cemetery and removed a head from a corpse.
“We had a person voice their concerns about information they had heard on the street,” said Chief Richard Keith of the Morristown Police Department.

Lawyer Has Sex with Her Triple Murder Client in the Jail
The state Supreme Court on Thursday announced a two-year suspension for a lawyer caught having jailhouse sex with a triple-murder defendant she was representing.
Theresa Olson’s suspension begins Friday; she must undergo a psychological evaluation before she can be reinstated.
Earlier, Olson and the state Bar Association had agreed to a one-year suspension, but the high court rejected the bar’s recommendation.
In 2002, guards outside a King County Jail conference room saw Olson with her dress pulled up and her client, Sebastian Burns, standing behind her with his pants down.
At the time of the encounter, Olson was 43 and married; Burns was 26.
Olson was removed from the case, and Burns was given new counsel. He was convicted last year, along with a friend, of beating the friend’s sister and parents to death at their Bellevue home in 1994.

NARA - A woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of causing a neighbor to suffer insomnia and headaches by playing loud music almost 24 hours a day between November 2002 and March this year, police said.
Miyoko Kawahara, 58, is believed to have made a hole in her back door so loud sounds from a portable stereo could reach the neighbor’s house, which is about 6 meters away from her home in the town of Heguri, Nara Prefecture, the police said.
The neighbor, a 64-year-old woman, was diagnosed as needing a month of medical treatment, leading police to investigate the case, they added.
Kawahara has refused to discuss any possible motive, they said.
The woman has had conflict with neighbors over noise for about nine years, according to the police.

World's Smallest Dog Died A Natural Death
PRAGUE - Named the world’s smallest dog in 1999, a chihuahua just 15 cm (six inches) tall, died of natural causes and not medical malpractice as its owner claimed, a Czech court has ruled.
CTK news agency said the court in the eastern city of Olomouc on Thursday dismissed a one million crown (23,000 pound) damages claim by the dog’s owner against a veterinarian who, she said, gave her pet an injection that left it paralysed.
The chihuahua, listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s smallest dog in 1999, had to be put down in 2000. It was not clear how old the dog was.
The owner claimed the damages as a loss of earnings for the deals that had been set up for the dog, called Ondra.
The judge, citing expert testimony, ruled that death was the result of a birth defect, hydrocephalus, or water in the head.
Guinness World Records said on its website that the world’s smallest living dog according to height was Whitney, a Yorkshire terrier who measured 7.3 cm (three inches) in 2002.

Bags of about 150 Dead Dogs Found off Remote Road
GATE CITY, Va. - A construction worker checking a remote Virginia road found carcasses and body parts of about 150 dogs, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
“When we got to the scene, you just could not believe the smell, and the amount of dogs down there was just unbelievable,” sheriff’s investigator Chris Holder said. “I’ve never seen anything like it. It looks like a deliberate dumping.”
The animals were found in plastic trash bags and biohazard bags and some had spilled out, he said. The dogs had been dead about two to five days, Holder said.
The bags contained various breeds, including Rottweilers, German shepherds, Labradors and a few small-breed dogs, Holder said. The animals apparently were euthanized and some toys also were found in the bags.
The dogs were found Wednesday near a riverbank outside Gate City, near the Tennessee border.
