OMAHA, Neb. - Linda Stafford of Omaha said she has been going to garage sales for 30 years, and taking good-natured ribbing from her family all the while.
Perhaps that ribbing will stop, Stafford said, after she found more than $3,000 in bills dating from 1928 to 1953 in the false bottom of a chair she purchased for $2 at a garage sale.

Inside a compartment were two paper packets, one with $10 in coins, the other with $3,060 in bills.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son’s birthday party.
Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy’s father, the stripper and two others also face charges.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A mother is accused of sending nude photos of her 13-year-old daughter to a man, who is charged with raping the girl.
Erik Hull, 35, of the Houston suburb of Pasadena, was charged with aggravated sexual assault on a child. He was in Bexar County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
The 28-year-old mother, whose name was not released to shield her daughter’s identity, was charged with promoting child pornography. Her bail was also set at $500,000.
Police responded to a San Antonio apartment Saturday night and found the mother holding Hull at knifepoint.
She told police she sent Hull the nude photos so he could sell them. Hull was visiting Saturday when the girl called her grandmother saying Hull had raped her, a police report said.
Hull said he did not remember what happened, that he woke up with the girl on top of him, the report said.

Spartanburg County Teen Accused of Having Sex with Dog

ALTON, Ill. - It sounds like the sort of tale Mark Twain might have cooked up: A man fishing in the Mississippi River hauls in a blue catfish roughly the size of a sixth-grader. But this is no fish story. Early Sunday, Tim Pruitt caught a 124-pound blue catfish.
To get a sense of just how big that is, the state record holder was a mere 85 pounds and the world record holder tipped the scales at 121 pounds, 8 ounces.
Now, Pruitt, whose fish has already been weighed in the presence of a conservation police officer and measured by a biologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, is expected to submit documentation to the International Game Fish Association so that it can be certified a world record holder.
Once that is done, the catch should be approved as the world’s largest blue catfish, replacing the current champion that was caught Jan. 16, 2004, in Lake Texoma, Texas, said Becky Reynolds, a spokeswoman for the association.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - An 86-year-old woman has been sent to jail after police said she called 911 dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour to complain about a pizza parlor. Dorothy Densmore remained in jail Tuesday charged with misusing the 911 system, a jail spokeswoman said.
She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokeswoman. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a “crazy old coot,” Giannini said.
Densmore wanted them arrested. Instead, police came to arrest her, and she resisted, Giannini said.
It’s unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said. But on Sunday, Densmore kept calling 911, even after she was told to stop, Giannini said.
When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.
Densmore is also charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show.
It was the second time she’d been charged with misusing the emergency system, court records show.
In March 2004, police said she called 911 about 10 times after she was asked to stop, a police report says. She then threatened to hit the officer with a chair when he came to arrest her, the report states.

It was unclear whether Ritchie is a member of the church.
If convicted, Ritchie could face one to ten years in prison on each count and a fine up to 100-thousand-dollars.

Paula Roemer’s cat Yofi was killed after her neighbor’s dog broke through a fence in February 2004. The dog’s owner, Wallace Gray, had pleaded guilty to animal-control violations in Seattle Municipal Court and admitted negligence.
Seattle District Court Judge Barbara Linde ordered Gray to pay Roemer a little over $45,000 for Yofi’s death, including $30,000 for the value of the cat, $15,000 for emotional distress, and other charges.
Roemer’s lawyer, Adam Karp, who specializes in animal cases, said that while multimillion-dollar judgments have been awarded over thoroughbred horses, her award was the highest for a pet in the United States that he was aware of. Roemer has said she would donate the money to animal welfare groups.

A school resource officer arrested him. His father picked him up and he was not taken to the police station.
The father said the nails were left in his pocket after a Boy Scout outing. He says it is ridiculous that his son faces an unlawful weapon charge. He says the boy threatened no one.

Teenagers Arrested for Pouring Boiling Water on Man
FORT MORGAN, Colo. - Three Fort Morgan residents could face multiple felony charges after allegedly robbing a 45-year-old man and throwing boiling water on him several times.
Police have arrested 26-year-old Tanya Marie Espinoza, 19-year-old Fen Alex “Fred” Panameno and a 17-year-old boy in connection with Monday’s attack.
The victim says Panameno and the juvenile pulled him into an apartment that night.
The trio then allegedly demanded money, beat him repeatedly and poured boiling water on him.
He suffered severe burns on his back, face and neck, and is being treated at a Greeley hospital burn unit.
All three suspects face possible charges of robbery, assault and kidnapping.
They’re being held without bond.

Oral Sex Caused Car Crash
Police in Romania were shocked to find a car crash was caused because a couple were having oral sex while driving.
The driver lost control on a crowded road in Craiova, Dolj county, and collided with an oncoming car, reports Editie Speciala newspaper.

Woman Bank Robber with Toy Gun Killed
A bank robber once dubbed “Cowboy Bob” because of her bearded male disguise was fatally shot by police in Dallas after holding up a bank, fleeing police in a recreational vehicle and pulling a toy gun that officers thought was real.
Peggy Jo Tallas, 60, stopped the RV in a residential area two miles from the bank in Tyler in northeast Texas, police spokesman Don Martin said. She was not in disguise, although a number of wigs and hats were later found in the vehicle.
Officers were trying to persuade her to surrender when she pulled what appeared to be a revolver, prompting four officers to open fire, Martin said.
Tallas was convicted of three counts of bank robbery in the early 1990s, Martin said. In what a judge at the time called “one of the most unusual cases I’ve ever seen,” Tallas eluded authorities by posing as a Western-styled man, complete with fake beard, cowboy hat, sunglasses and cowboy duds.

Woman Gets 20 Years for Staging Fake Death
GEORGETOWN, Texas - A woman who helped her husband dig up a corpse and use it to fake his death in a fiery staged car accident was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison.
A jury sentenced Molly Daniels after she pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and hindering apprehension. She was also fined $10,000.
“This was a ghoulish, horrific crime,” said prosecutor Jane Starnes. “I think it is unfortunate she could only get 20 years.”
Officials said the body of an 81-year-old person was used in the fake death June 18, before husband Clayton Wayne Daniels was scheduled to report to jail for failing to report to his probation officer. He had been on probation for sexually assaulting a girl.

Family Reunites with Dog Lost in 1999 Tornado
OKLAHOMA CITY - Six years after the disastrous May 3, 1999, tornadoes that left a swath of destruction through Oklahoma City, people are still finding things they lost in the chaos - but those stories are likely nothing compared to the story of a dog that was recently reunited with her family in Choctaw after six years.
During the events of six years ago, many things were lost in south Oklahoma City and surrounding suburbs - including pets. Ginger, a Dalmatian belonging to the Collins family, was only a puppy when she was lost in the storm.
“All these years went by, and I always thought, ‘Where would she be if she was still alive?’” said Ginger’s owner, Amy Collins.
Collins said she happened to be looking on the Rocky Spot Rescue Web site and thought she saw her dog.
“I thought, ‘There’s no way this dog can be on there,’” she said.

LIMA, Peru - Peruvian officials saved some 4,000 endangered frogs from being whizzed into popular drinks after they were found hidden in an abattoir.
We were checking the fridges when out jumped a frog. It had escaped, they were in big crates,” a spokesman for Lima city hall said on Thursday.
Frog cocktails are popular in the Andes because of their supposed aphrodisiac qualities. Shops in central Lima selling the drinks have tanks where customers can choose their frogs.
He said the Telmatobius frogs - which had apparently been brought from the southern lakes in the high Andes - were found on Wednesday stored in the abattoir.
They were taken to a colonial fountain in central Lima to splash around before being returned to their native lakes by ecological police.
“There were about 5,000 of them but 1,000 died because of the conditions and in transit,” the spokesman said.

Study Finds 209 Animals Sexually Abused in Sweden Since 1970s
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - More than 200 animals, mostly horses, have been sexually abused in Sweden since the 1970s, the country’s animal-protection agency said Friday in its first report on bestiality. The government commissioned the study after reports sexual abuse of animals could be on the rise in Sweden.
Most of the cases were reported by veterinarians and police after 2000, the study said. But it was not clear if sex with animals had become more common or if people had become more likely to report it, it said.
Authors of the report noted Sweden has not outlawed bestiality, as has Canada, Britain and some U.S. states. Abusers can only be prosecuted if the animal is physically injured.
The study found 209 cases of sexual abuse of animals, including 161 involving horses, 18 dogs and 17 cattle.
