Man Burned Dog To Death In Oven
SAVANNAH, Ga. - A suspected burglar was charged with felony animal cruelty after police found a resident’s missing dog burned to death in an oven that had been set to 400 degrees.
The dog’s owner, Angela DeLettre, noticed an open back door, items missing and a kitchen sink overflowing with water when she came home Thursday. She found one of her dogs safe, but the other, a 1-year-old rat terrier, was missing.
Police later found the dead dog in the oven.
Police arrested Alexander Davis, 19, based on an anonymous tip. In addition to the cruelty charge, he was charged with burglarizing DeLettre’s home and another home in the area. Another person was charged with theft by receiving stolen property. Read full story

A Wanaka man may have had the wool pulled over his eyes after he called 111 to report he had woken up to find a sheep in his bed, police say.
Senior Constable Ian Henderson said the 19-year-old man sounded rather traumatised when he contacted police at 2.21am on Wednesday.
“He said he had woken up to find a sheep sleeping in his bed and he was sure it was pregnant.”
Police did not ask how the young man came to that conclusion.
Rather than asking the sheep to leave, the man did the gentlemanly thing - he left her to sleep in the bed and he spent the rest of the night on the couch, Mr Henderson said.
However, when he checked on her the next morning, it appeared his bed mate had hoofed it some time during the night and she was no where to be found.
A scene check by police later that morning failed to find any trace of the sheep. “There certainly wasn’t any dags, wool or hoof marks in the bed.” Read full story

Man Suspected Of Smut Attack On 300 Cars
BERLIN (Reuters) - German police have arrested a 31-year-old man they caught vandalizing two cars by scratching large penis-shaped gouges into them and said they believe he may be responsible for similar markings found on hundreds of others.
A police spokesman in the western city of Bochum said on Friday the man was under investigation for vandalizing around 330 vehicles in the region over the last few months, most of which had also been marked with the same penis insignia.
The total damage may near 350,000 euros, he said.
“Nearly all of them had this special motif,” the police spokesman said. “He said he did it because he was mentally disturbed. I don’t know if that was just a pretext.”
The suspect is now undergoing psychiatric treatment, he added.

London - The London Zoo unveiled a new exhibition on Thursday - eight humans prowling around wearing little more than fig leaves to cover their modesty.
The “Human Zoo” is intended to show the basic nature of human beings as they frolick throughout the August bank holiday weekend.
“We have set up this exhibit to highlight the spread of man as a plague species and to communicate the importance of man’s place in the planet’s ecosystem,” London Zoo said.

Chinese Immigrant Stores Dead Friend In Freezer For 2 Years
A Chinese citizen living in the Russian city of Novosibirsk has been storing the frozen body of his compatriot, who committed suicide, for the last two years. Russian police say that there is no law against such an action.
The Interfax news agency quoted a local prosecutor as saying that the Chinese citizen was detained as police checked the legality of his residency in Novosibirsk. It was soon discovered that the man was an illegal immigrant.
The immigrant then told Russian prosecutors that two years ago one of his compatriots committed suicide, but the man decided not to report the incident to the police. Instead, he rented a garage, equipped it with an industrial freezer and stored the dead body there.
A prosecutor said that experts were conducting an autopsy in an attempt to determine the cause of death.
He also said that Russian law stipulates no crime in actions such as storing dead bodies in freezers and unless new evidence is revealed in the case, the Chinese man will not be punished.

Ghost Hunters Arrested For Breaking Into Factory
WEST HAVEN, Conn. - More than a dozen people are accused of breaking into an old factory in Connecticut, apparently in search of ghosts.
Police say the group of mostly teenagers entered the old American Buckle Company factory in West Haven by breaking into an adjacent building.
The visit apparently was inspired by a Web site that describes the factory as one of the city’s most ghost-ridden buildings.
While getting into the spirit of things, police say the teens were also getting into some spirits. They say some of the ghost hunters took bottles of liquor from the closed restaurant next door.
Police say 13 people have been arrested, and they expect to arrest several more.

Tiger Kills Teenage Girl In Kansas
(AP) MOUND VALLEY, Kan. A Siberian tiger attacked and killed a teenage girl who was posing for photos at a family-run animal sanctuary Thursday in southeast Kansas, authorities said.
The Labette County Sheriff’s office identified the victim as Haley R. Hilderbrand, 17, of Altamont. A statement from the office said Hilderbrand was at the Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary posing for photos with the 7-year-old tiger, which was being restrained by its handler, when the animal turned and attacked her.
Officers and handlers killed the animal. Emergency personnel were not able to revive Hilderbrand.
Doug Billingsly and his family opened the 80-acre sanctuary in 1994. According to the sanctuary’s Web site, its animals include lions, leopards, tigers and bears. The site says the sanctuary has an affiliated Animal Entertainment Productions, which trains animals for stage performances, movies, television shows and magic shows.

A girl brought up by a pack of wild dogs has been discovered in Russia.
The news agency Regnum reports 14-year-old Ramzia Tukmatullina is the daughter of an alcoholic and has been living with the dogs since she was much younger. Neighbors nicknamed her Naida, a popular Russian dog’s name.
A local police officer in Kazan reported the case to authorities, leading to an invitation to the girl to appear on a Moscow talk show.
The news agency said there have been a number of similar cases in recent years, usually involving the children of alcoholics. In one case, a girl in the Ukraine was discovered living in a dog house with the family dog.

Greedy Squirrel Too Fat To Make A Getaway

Museum's Cadaver Exhibit Might Be Dead
TAMPA, Fla. - A decision by Florida’s attorney general could scuttle plans for a Tampa museum to display a cadaver exhibit.
The board that oversees the delivery and use of human specimens at the state’s medical schools took notice of the upcoming exhibit at the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry. The board believes it has the authority to demand proof that the deceased or their families authorized the use of the bodies.
Museum officials argue that the Anatomical Board doesn’t have jurisdiction.
But Attorney General Charlie Crist says that because the purpose is educational, the exhibition’s approval is required.
The bodies were preserved at a medical university in China and belong to Chinese people who died unidentified or unclaimed by family members. Officials say they were obtained legally.
“BODIES, the Exhibition” features 20 full cadavers and 260 other parts preserved with a process that replaces human tissue with silicone rubber. Skin is removed, exposing the rest in all their authentic glory.
The Tampa stop marks the U-S debut for the exhibit. It’s scheduled to open August 20th.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - A Memphis woman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after she bludgeoned her boyfriend to death with an iPod.
Arleen Mathers, 23, was arrested Thursday morning after she called Memphis Police and said she had killed her boyfriend, according to a Sheriff’s Department report.
When deputies arrived at Mathers’ apartment at 528 Poplar Avenue, Mathers led them to the body of her boyfriend, Brad Pulaski, 27.
Brad Pulaski had died of blunt trauma to the head after being repeatedly bludgeoned with an iPod, a popular MP3 player produced by Apple.
Police said no motive has been confirmed, although evidence suggested the murder was the result of a domestic dispute after Pulaski erased the contents of Mathers’ iPod.

Teen's Navel Piercing Lands Mother In Jail
Authorities have charged a Massachusetts woman whose daughter nearly died after trying to pierce her own navel.
Prosecutors say the mother failed to seek medical treatment after the 13-year-old developed a near-fatal infection.
Deborah Robinson faces a felony count of permitting bodily injury to a child under 14, and a misdemeanor count of child endangerment.
Authorities say the girl was likely in extreme pain within a day or two after the start of her infection, which caused organ damage. She was hospitalized last week after family members called paramedics to the home, where she was found emaciated and near death.
Prosecutors say she remains in critical but stable condition and is being given large doses of antibiotics.
A judge has also ordered the mother to undergo a mental evaluation.

A German vet who operated on a dog to remove a suspected stomach tumour found a g-string instead.
Claudia Schuermann, head of the Troisdorf animal rescue home, said bull terrier Breiti was handed in after his previous owners complained he ate “anything that wasn’t nailed down”.
She said: “He’s a lovely dog and we had already found him a new home when he stopped eating, and the vet noticed a hard lump in his stomach.”
After giving 10-year-old Breiti an ultrasound examination, the vet concluded he had stomach cancer and operated immediately to remove the ‘tumour’.
But when the pet was cut open the vet found the cancer was actually an undigested g-string the dog had stolen from his last owners.

Surgeons said Nigel Kirk from Burton on Trent, Staffs came within 1MM of dying.
Nigel was nailing down floorboards in his bathroom when he tripped and fell reports The Sun.

Nigel dialled 999 and was rushed to a heart unit in Leicester where the nail was removed in a delicate op.

Woman Who Tried to Open Plane Door Arrested
SEATTLE (AP) - A woman was arrested Wednesday for attempting to open an airplane exit door while the plane was still in the air, police said.
The 52-year-old woman from Dania Beach, Fla., left her seat and tried to open the door as the United Airlines flight was descending into Seattle to land, police said. The plane was at an altitude of about 4,000 feet at the time.
She failed but “did manage to turn the handle far enough that a warning light went on in the cockpit,” Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesman Bob Parker told KING-TV.
A flight attendant persuaded the woman to sit back down, but nobody physically restrained her. Parker said the other passengers stayed belted in their seats in case she did manage to open the door.
The woman was arrested for investigation of malicious mischief when the plane landed. Police were investigating whether alcohol and prescription medication were involved.
A United spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment late Wednesday.

OCALA, Fla. (AP) - A man made up a story about killing a hitchhiker and burying the body in the woods in an effort to persuade his wife to leave him, authorities said.
Teddy Claire Akin, 28, of Ocala, was charged Tuesday with making a false report and petit theft. He was being held without bail.
Akin’s wife, Felicia, called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Monday to report that her husband had told her that he killed a hitchhiker, authorities said.
Akin told investigators he had picked up the hitchhiker, who wanted a ride to Tampa. He said he hit the man in the neck, causing him to gasp and make a gurgling sound, when the two got into an argument over how far Akin would drive him, authorities said.
Akin said he dumped the body in a forest near a gun range and kept the man’s wallet, which contained the license of Utah resident Dennis Legrande Allen, authorities said.
Deputies searching the area Akin described with dogs and an air unit failed to find a body Monday evening, Capt. Thomas Bibb said.

Dentures Removed From Man's Bronchial Tube
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) - A Taiwanese man is breathing easier after a surgeon removed a missing set of dentures from one of his bronchial tubes - three years after he lost them in a fall.
Surgeon Chen Chun-lei said the unidentified man visited his clinic several days ago complaining of shortness of breath and a high fever.
The man had no idea the missing denture was the culprit, causing a mild case of pneumonia.
``He had looked for the missing dentures for three years but they were nowhere to be found,’’ Chen said.
Chen operated after an X-ray detected an unknown object in one of his bronchial tubes - what turned out to be the missing denture.
Chen said the 45-year-old man did not suffer serious breathing problems earlier, possibly because the lower denture of eight teeth had stuck in part of the bronchial tube but did not entirely block the passage of air.
``The patient might have needed to have part of his lung removed if the denture was not located before it caused severe damage,’’ Chen said Monday. ``He was a lucky man to find it when he did.’’

Man, 63, Held for Sex with Goat
Bethlehem - A 63-year-old Free State man faces charges of bestiality after he was allegedly caught having sex with a goat near Harrismith, police said on Sunday.
The man then allegedly assaulted the 14-year-old boy who saw him “without his pants behind the goat” in a field on Saturday afternoon, police spokesperson Christopher Mophiring said.
“A community member from the village also noticed the incident and informed the boy to report the matter to the tribal leader.
“On their way… they were confronted and allegedly assaulted by the suspect and his son,” Mophiring said.
The 63-year-old, from Makholokweng Village near Harrismith, was arrested and will appear in the town’s magistrate’s court on Monday.
