Before cops threw the book at him, Jakub Fik threw something unusual at them - his penis.
Fik, 33, cut off his own penis during a Northwest Side rampage Wednesday morning. When confronted by police, Fik hurled several knives and his severed organ at the officers, police said. Officers stunned him with a Taser and took him into custody.
“We took him out without any serious injury, with the exception of his own,” said Chicago Police Sgt. Edward Dolan of the 16th District.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. - Staphylococcus is an infection that can be deadly, and it strikes healthy people, including one woman who went for a beauty treatment.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Orange County deputies are trying to find out how an 18-month old child fell 30 feet from an apartment window.

Woman Caught Driving Corpse Across Country
BERLIN (Reuters) - A 53-year-old German woman who was driving her dead mother across country to save on mortuary transportation costs was fined by police for disturbing a dead person’s peace.
“You’re not allowed to transport dead people in your private car,” said Ralf Schomisch, police spokesman in Koblenz, where the car was found after a tip-off from a mortuary.
“The corpse was on the back seat without a seat belt, which in this case didn’t really matter. But it was covered up with clothing. It is a misdemeanor.” Read full story

Lawyer Drops Dead While Arguing Case
Raleigh, NC - A defense lawyer was arguing a drunken driving case when he fell on the courtroom floor and died of an apparent heart attack, officials and friends said. Bailiffs and a police officer tried to administer CPR immediately after 57-year-old Tom Farris collapsed Thursday in the Wake County courthouse.
Emergency personnel arrived less than six minutes later. Farris had previous heart problems, said Duncan McMillan, a friend and fellow lawyer.
McMillan said neither the rescue workers nor the court building had defibrillators, which can sometime revive patients by delivering shocks to the heart. The county allocated money last year to buy the paddles but has been studying where they are needed.
The courthouse should have at least four defibrillators before June, county spokeswoman Sharon Brown said.

LONGMONT, Colo. - A man who said he bought a device that let him change traffic lights from red to green has received a $50 ticket on suspicion of interfering with a traffic signal.
Jason Niccum of Longmont told the Daily Times-Call that the device, which he bought on eBay for $100, helped him cut his time driving to work.
“I guess in the two years I had it, that thing paid for itself,” he told the newspaper Wednesday.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - A principal trying to prevent walkouts during immigration rallies inadvertently introduced a lockdown so strict that children weren’t allowed to go to the bathroom, and instead had to use buckets in the classroom, an official said.
Worthington Elementary School Principal Angie Marquez imposed the lockdown March 27 as nearly 40,000 students across Southern California left classes that morning to attend immigrants’ rights demonstrations. The lockdown continued into the following morning.

Yangmei villagers in Sanjiang Township of Xinhui District in the city of Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, are expecting a good harvest this year thanks to the hard-working cats.
The village committee spent more than 12,000 yuan (US$1,500) to buy more than 200 cats, which they released onto farmland to help wipe out the rat problem.

Cat Saves Baby's Life
BERLIN (Reuters) - A cat saved the life of a newborn baby abandoned on the doorstep of a Cologne house in the middle of the night by meowing loudly until someone woke up, a police spokesman said Saturday.
“The cat is a hero,” Cologne police spokesman Uwe Beier said. “Its loud meowing got the attention of the homeowner and saved the baby from suffering life-threatening hypothermia. The homeowner opened door to see why the cat was making so much noise and discovered the newborn.”
Beier said the boy was taken to hospital at 5 a.m. on Thursday, when overnight temperatures fell toward zero, and had suffered only mild hypothermia. He said there was no indication of what happened to the boy’s mother.

Man Gets $218 Trillion Phone Bill
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - A Malaysian man said he nearly fainted when he recieved a $218 trillion phone bill and was ordered to pay up within 10 days or face prosecution, a newspaper reported Monday.
Yahaya Wahab said he disconnected his late father’s phone line in January after he died and settled the 84 ringgit ($23) bill, the New Straits Times reported.
