For three years the priests would eat a special diet consisting only of nuts and seeds. They then ate only bark and roots for another three years and began drinking a poisonous tea. This caused vomiting and a rapid loss of bodily fluids, and most importantly, it killed off any maggots that might cause the body to decay after death.
Finally, a self-mummifying monk would lock himself in a stone tomb barely larger than his body, where he would not move from the lotus position. His only connection to the outside world was an air tube and a bell. Each day he rang a bell to let those outside know that he was still alive. When the bell stopped ringing, the tube was removed and the tomb sealed.
Florida Man's Headache Mystery Solved By A Bullet
A Florida man awoke with a severe headache and asked his wife to drive him to a hospital, where doctors found a bullet lodged behind his right ear, sheriff’s deputies said.
“The nurse looked at him and said, ‘It appears that you’ve been shot,’” the Fort Pierce Tribune quoted St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara as saying. “And he said, ‘No way.’”
The wife, April Moylan, fled the emergency room when the bullet was discovered but later told deputies she had accidentally shot her husband as he slept early on Tuesday. She was jailed on a weapons violation charge while deputies pursued additional charges.

The beach at the resort of Riccione, on the Adriatic coast, is also closed to children, with mothers encouraged to leave their offspring with their father or grandparents.

Gravedigger Arrested For Bringing His Work Home
A ghoulish gravedigger has been arrested in Fitchburg for allegedly stealing bones from a cemetery in a bizarre attempt to use the body parts as household ornaments.
Kenneth Chartland, 30, a gravedigger for St. Bernard Cemetery in Fitchburg, allegedly stole a skull and several body parts from a decomposing corpse and planned to use them around the house, according to WHDH’s Channel 7 News.
WHDH reported that Chartland used the skull as an ashtray and fashioned a pipe out of the other body parts he stole.

Doctors in southern China were planning to perform surgery on a 1-year-old boy whose parents took him to a hospital because he had been unusually fussy and learned he had six sewing needles in his body, newspapers reported Monday.
The child’s parents, migrant workers from southwest China, said they had no idea how the needles ended up in their son, nicknamed Xiao Yu.

The skeletal remains of an elderly woman were found Friday in her home, more than seven years after neighbors last reported seeing her.
Ann M. Simmeck apparently died of natural causes, according to an autopsy conducted later Friday. She would have been 79 years old.
The autopsy could not determine the year and date of her death, believed to have occurred several years ago inside her split-level ranch home.
The home, which bears a strongly worded “no trespassing” sign, still had working electric service.

A disabled man was taken for a 50mph ride along a US highway after his wheelchair got jammed in the grille of a lorry.

The truck driver drove off, completely unaware that he had a new passenger.

Pig Was A Monster, But He Wasn't Wild
The huge hog that became known as “Monster Pig” after being hunted and killed by an 11-year-old boy had another name: Fred. The not-so-wild pig had been raised on an Alabama farm and was sold to the Lost Creek Plantation just four days before it was shot there in a 150-acre fenced area, the animal’s former owner said.
Phil Blissitt told The Anniston Star in a story Friday that he bought the 6-week-old pig in December 2004 as a Christmas gift for his wife, Rhonda, and that they sold it after deciding to get rid of all the pigs at their farm.
“I just wanted the truth to be told. That wasn’t a wild pig,” Rhonda Blissitt said.
