A racehorse has been renamed in Australia after officials realised it had an obscene name.
Aydee Fic developed a cult following due to his name which in Arabic means: ‘F*** you’, reports the Courier Mail.
Punters, mostly of Lebanese background, cheered and laughed as the two-year-old won on his debut at Toowoomba.
All racehorse names have to be approved by Racing Information Services Australia but officials didn’t pick up on the rude name.

Oldest Live Birth Captured In Fish Fossil
A fossil fish, estimated at 380 million years old, has been discovered in the act of giving birth. The fish and her offspring died while still connected by an umbilical cord.
Dubbed “mother fish” by the scientists who discovered her in northwestern Australia, Materpiscis attenboroughi is not only an entirely new genus and species, but pushes back the first known case of live birth in the animal kingdom by some 200 million years.
The discovery is also the earliest evidence so far of internal fertilization, or sex with penetration. Other fish species from the Middle Palaeozoic Era laid eggs.

A Chinese man has stunned onlookers by demonstrating his ability to squirt milk out if his eyes. Zhang Yinming drank milk through his nose and then squirted it up to two metres with his eyes.
Zhang, from Shandong province, showed off his unusual skills in Nanjing city, the capital of Jiangsu Province. He also used his ears to blow up two balloons at the same time, reports the People’s Daily.
Amazed onlookers say they would never believed it without seeing it with their own eyes.

First Female DNA Sequenced
Geneticists of Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) are the first to determine the DNA sequence of a woman. She is also the first European whose DNA sequence has been determined.
Following in-depth analysis, the sequence will be made public, except incidental privacy-sensitive findings. The results will contribute to insights into human genetic diversity.
The DNA is that of Dr. Marjolein Kriek, a clinical geneticist at LUMC. “If anyone could properly consider the ramifications of knowing his or her sequence, it is a clinical geneticist,” says professor Gert-Jan B van Ommen, leader of the LUMC team and director of the ‘Center for Medical Systems Biology’ (CMSB), a center of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative.

A couple says that their Labrador cross is the oldest dog in the world. The owners of Bella say that she is at least 29 years old, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Owner David Richardson, 76, said he got the mixed breed dog from an animal home about 26 years ago when she was at least three years old. That would make Bella’s age more than 200 years in canine years.
But the RSPCA said it does not have any records for Bella and the Guinness World Records said without the appropriate paperwork it could not be proved.
“I’m convinced she is the oldest dog in the world”, said Mr Richardson, from Chesterfield.
The oldest dog ever was Bluey, a sheepdog from Australia, who lived 29 years.

Glowing Films Reveal Traces Of Explosives
New spray-on films developed by UC San Diego chemists will be the basis of portable devices that can quickly reveal trace amounts of nitrogen-based explosives.
Contaminated fingerprints leave dark shadows on the films, which glow blue under ultraviolet light. One of the films can distinguish between different classes of explosive chemicals, a property that could provide evidence to help solve a crime, or prevent one.
A recent episode of CSI: Miami featured the technology, which linked fingerprints left on a video camera to a bomb used in a bank heist, revealing the motive for the robbery. In real life, the security systems company RedXDefense has developed a portable kit based on the technology that security officers could use with minimal training.

A high court judge in Malaysia has ruled that sentencing a person to five months in jail for hugging his girlfriend was “excessive”.
Justice Abdul Rahim Uda allowed a 29-year-old rubber tapper’s appeal that his jail sentence be reduced and ordered him to be fined RM1,500 (approx. $ 450) instead.
“They were boyfriend and girlfriend. The five months jail sentence is excessive. Because of this, no one will dare to date our young women”.

Mexican Donkey Released From Prison
A Mexican donkey has been freed from jail. Blacky was held in the prison for three days for biting and kicking two men near a ranch outside Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas state.
He was freed after his owner, Mauro Gutierrez, paid a fine and hospital bill for the two men injured, reports ITN. Mauro said: “This issue has been already paid for and fixed, so I’m no longer involved in this.”
Mauro must also pay £244 to each man to compensate for loss of wages.

While looking at another object in the spiral galaxy NGC 2770, using NASA’s orbiting Swift telescope, Carnegie-Princeton fellows* Alicia Soderberg and Edo Berger detected an extremely luminous blast of X-rays released by a supernova explosion.
They alerted 8 other orbiting and on-ground telescopes to turn their eyes on this first-of-its-kind event.

“That is why the cabinet wants to make it an offence to use the services of a sex operator without a licence or a non-registered independent prostitute,” the government said in a statement .
Prostitutes have worked the narrow alleys of the old centre of Amsterdam for centuries. While they used to attract sailors and merchants in the city’s heyday as the heart of a global trading empire, they are now a huge tourist draw. The Dutch cabinet officially legalised prostitution in 2000.

A cat chasing a mouse in Tirana’s main power station caused a 72-hour blackout across parts of the Albanian capital, the electricity company said on Friday.
“A cat and a mouse ran into the high-voltage cables,” a company spokeswoman said, showing pictures of the electrocuted animals. “We took pictures because we’ve never had anything like this.”

A man who was suffering breathing difficulties took medical matters into his own hands in a rather extreme way – by performing a tracheotomy on himself with a steak knife.
Steve Wilder, of Omaha, Nebraska, woke in the night struggling to breathe. Fearing that he was about to die, and not believing that an ambulance would reach him in time, he took the obvious course of action – he went to the kitchen and picked up a steak knife.
He used the knife to cut a hole in his throat, allowing air into his lungs.

The largest randomized study of breastfeeding ever conducted reports that breastfeeding raises children’s IQs and improves their academic performance, a McGill researcher and his team have found.
In a new article, Dr. Michael Kramer reports the results from following the same group of 14,000 children for 6.5 years.

A Darwin, Australia, family said its 8-week-old kitten was swallowed whole by a python that invaded its backyard.
Asha McLaren said her daughter, 14-year-old Taara, went to feed the family’s five adult cats and four kittens at about 7 a.m. Tuesday when she noticed one of the young felines, named Kohl, was missing and a massive snake was in its place, The Australian reported Wednesday.
McLaren said a professional snake catcher captured the python and an X-ray was taken that proved the bulge in its belly was indeed from eating the kitten.

Man Arrested After Police Find 300 Dead Cats
Police say they have discovered 300 dead cats stuffed into freezers at a man’s Sacramento home.
Animal control officers also removed 30 live cats from 47-year-old Michael Louis Vondueren’s home over the weekend.
Vondueren was arrested on suspicion of possessing an automatic weapon and obstructing police officers. Animal control officers also are considering issuing citations.
Authorities say three freezers were crammed with dead cats and the house was littered with cat feces. Police say Vondueren’s 81-year-old mother also was living at the house.

Queensland University of Technology nursing researcher Rhonda Anderson said self-efficacy had emerged as a strong influence on women’s decision to do more exercise or eat more healthily.

Japanese Official Demoted For 780,000 Hits On Porn Sites
A Japanese civil servant was demoted for logging more than 780,000 hits on pornographic Web sites on his office computer over nine months. The man, a Kinokawa city government employee in western Japan, visited porn sites from June 2007 to February 2008, city official Tomiko Waki said. The man’s name was withheld.
City officials said the number of hits discovered on his computer’s internal log was so high in part because one click on certain types of pornographic sites registers multiple hits. Despite his frequent porn viewing, none of his colleagues noticed his activities, which he apparently conducted throughout the workday.
“Each desk is set apart from each other,” Waki said, adding that the man logged 170,000 hits on porn sites in July alone. The man’s supervisors discovered his extensive porn site visits after his computer became infected with a virus, prompting officials to examine his Web browser’s history.

The implants are part of a trial that has been going on for over three years, with patients in the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. The trial is the first of its kind.
