Firefighters used baby oxygen masks to revive six pet cats after the moggies were overcome by smoke when a blaze ripped through a house. The crews used breathing apparatus adaptors usually reserved for babies to revive the animals who were found lying unconscious in the smoke-logged building.

Kobayashi Fails To Break Fruitcake Record
Competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi has won awards for eating hot dogs, hamburgers, dumplings, bratwurst, lobster rolls, cow brains, and rice balls. But he completely gave up on the world record at a fruitcake eating competition!
With only a 1/2 pound to go at 8 minutes, Kobayashi began crumbling the nutty cake before jamming it into his mouth, a technique that seemed effective. “Koby! Koby! Koby!” the crowd of about two dozen shouted, as his pace quickened.
By 8 minutes and 35 seconds, Sonya Thomas’ 2001 record was still almost a pound out of his reach. In the end, Kobayashi managed to eat 4 pounds and 8 ounces. “It was very difficult to eat because it was so dense,” Kobayashi said through a translator, admitting that he had never eaten the cake before.
The fruitcake record remains at 4 pounds 14 ounces, eaten in ten minutes. The event held Friday raised funds for a food bank in New York City.

Mice may be responsible for a blaze that killed nearly 100 cats at an animal shelter near the Canadian city of Toronto, officials say. The fire at the humane society shelter in Oshawa also killed three dogs and some rats that were up for adoption. An initial report from the fire marshal says mice or rats chewing through electrical wires in the ceiling are likely to have sparked the blaze.

Thailand’s Scorpion Queen has set a new world record - by holding a poisonous scorpion in her mouth for just over two minutes. And Kanchana Kaetkaew, 39, may be able to hold that title for a while - it’s doubtful she will see any challengers any time soon. Kaetkaew went for the record today in a mall in Pattaya, a city on the Gulf of Thailand known for its nightlife and cabaret. She was handed the arachnid by her husband - who, coincidentally, is known as the Centipede King - and held it in her mouth for 2mins 1.8secs before spitting it out.

A new world record has been set in Romania after nearly 4,000 Father Christmases took to the streets handing out presents. A total of 3.939 people dressed as Santa Claus took part in the record-breaking parade in Bucharest. Guinness World Records officials confirmed it had beaten the previous record held by Taipei since 2003 with 3,618 Santas.

A purple squirrel which appeared at a school has baffled experts who are unable to explain its colour.
Teachers and pupils at Meoncross School in Stubbington, Hants, were amazed when they saw the creature through the window during a lesson.
Since the squirrel, now nicknamed Pete, was first seen, it has become a regular fixture at the school but no one has been able to say whether the animal has fallen into purple paint, had a run-in with some purple dye, or whether there is another explanation.

Cholla - pronounced Choyah after a desert cactus - is a 23-year-old mustang cross owned by a ballerina from Reno, Nevada. The creative equine uses his mouth to hold a brush and paints on an easel-mounted canvas in his paddock.

Monkeys Beat up Trainer With His Own Stick
Angry monkeys beat up thier trainer senseless with his own stick. The enraged monkeys struck back after their owner handed out a vicious beating to one of the trio during a performance in which they rode mini bicycles in a market in Sizhou, eastern China.
While one monkey twisted their cruel master’s ears, another pulled his hair out in handfuls and bit his neck.
Then, when he dropped his cane, the third snatched it up and began beating the trainer around the head until he broke the stick.
Now police are investigating may confiscate the monkeys.

The World's Tallest Mohawk
Meet the new record holder for the world’s tallest mohawk - whose hair soars to an incredible 27 inches above head-level.
In a bid to raise funds for charity, Eric Hahn, of Omaha, Nebraska, thought up the bizarre plan after watching an American TV show.
The triumphant Hahn commented: “I happened to see the last person who broke the tallest Mohawk record on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and they said it was 24 inches tall. I knew I could beat that.”
Hahn has been laying the groundwork for his moment of glory for some time - he’s been growing his hair for seven years.
Immediately after having his record confirmed, however, Hahn shaved all his hair off.

A Chinese man says he likes to relax by eating live snakes and washing them down with beer. Wen Xide, 41, of Wangzhuang village, Zhumadian, says he has been eating live snakes for 10 years. Ghost Arrests Burglar
A burglar who broke into a house in Malaysia claims he was held captive by a ‘supernatural figure’ for three days without food and water, according to news reports.
Police official Abdul Marlik Hakim Johar told The Star newspaper the house’s owners found the 36-year-old man fatigued and dehydrated when they returned from vacation Thursday.
He says they called an ambulance to take him to a hospital. The man told police that every time he tried to escape, a ‘supernatural figure’ shoved him to the ground. Abdul Marlik could not immediately be reached and other police officials declined to comment.

The artist said she used everyday vegetable such as tofu, cabbage, ginger, lotus roots, coriander and sweet potato, before adding a dash of digital manipulation to create the pieces.
