Young people in big cities are getting a distorted notion of sexuality due to the easy access to pornographic materials via the Internet and mobile phones, said the centre’s chief Ladda Thangsupachai.

Thai values, in which women are expected to preserve their virginity and display sexual correctness, are being replaced by an obscene and vigorous sexual expression.

“They [Bangkok girls] set the example of a free-sex society that will lead to premarital pregnancies, rape and crime,” Ladda said.

The Cultural Watch Centre, an agency of the Culture Ministry, is conducting seminars across the country as part of its anti-pornography campaign. The agency wants to make pornography a national issue, Ladda said.

A solution would be to proposed to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra so that a budget could be allocated to crackdown on obscenity. The Ministry would propose that Cultural Watch Centres be set up at all schools, Ladda said.
