Fact about Trees

Trees, which have been in existence for over 400 million years, are the largest living creatures. The world’s biggest specimen, a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) named General Sherman, stood over 275 feet tall (83.82 metres), measured over 82 feet (24.99 metres) in circumference and weighed approximately 6,720 tons, when it was last measured in 1975! It grew from a seed that weighed one six-thousandth of an ounce!

And believe it or not, there are trees even taller than this! The world’s tallest tree, another giant sequoia, Harry Cole, measures over 370 feet (112.78 metres) from base to crown—the height of a 37-story building!
