Expressing his disbelief, Justice Herbert Volney pointed out that in many parts of the country, “one can get a woman for a box of fried chicken”.

Sham Radoo, 35, of Carapo Village, Arima, appeared before Justice Volney in the Port of Spain First Criminal Court and admitted he had had sex with a Holstein heifer, a dairy cow.

State attorney Cheron Raphael told the court that Pooran Ramdial, the caretaker of Ridgewood Farm on Carapo Road, Arima, was on the farm on January 21, when he saw Radoo molesting the cow.

She referred to a report from veterinarian Dr Don Nicholas, which stated that although the cow had no physical injuries, the animal was found to be in a state of distress shortly after the attack.
A liquid resembling human semen was found in the cow’s vagina, she said.

In explaining what had led Radoo to molest the animal, Defense attorney Wayne Sturge said Radoo had never had sex before. Due to his poverty, the attorney said, Radoo felt he had no other choice but to have sex with the animal.
