The smallest pygmies are the Mbutsi from Zaire, with an average height of 137 cm (4 ft 6 in) for men and 135 cm (4 ft 5 in) for women. Some groups average only 132 cm (4 ft 4 in) for men and 124 cm (4 ft 1 in) for women. The Mbutsi are nomadic hunters and gatherers, originating from equatorial Africa. They live in the Ituri forest.
